A hot discussion in SERoundTable.Com came up with an issue : Is Directory Links worth as it's said ? The answer is very relative, as you can gain some quality traffic from them, but it also can just lower your position.

One Way Link is Better
If you have more and more one way links rather than reciprocal links,
it's better for you. But Of course, you can't just do bulk submission
on thousands of directories, without knowing which one is the best for
your website health.
Find The Same Theme
You probably see thousands of directories, and they might have theme
like : Free Directories, Niche, Specific, etc. Find the same theme with
your website, as unrelated theme only harm your rankings then.
The Right Category
Once you get your directory candidate, put in on the right categories.
An SEO website would be rather put to SEO Directories, rather than
Blogs or Internet. This apply the same if you have e-commerce website
selling eggs or chicken.
Watch Your Directories
Once submited and listed, watch and monitor it. There are thousands of
directories up there, and only few that have consistent update and
theme. So, if it's going down, you're down too. Pay attention on this.

underline that link from 2-3 quality directory website (e.g. DMOZ,
Yahoo) is worth more than 1000 crappy directories. Even if you have to
